Sp’akw’us Civil Constructors and Atlas Cloud Accountants
About Sp’akw’us Civil Constructors
Sp’akw’us Civil Constructors is an Indigenous-owned and operated civil construction company serving British Columbia. The company provides site preparation, road and infrastructure development, utility installation, earthworks, excavation, and other civil construction services.
Rooted in its community and Indigenous heritage, Sp’akw’us combines local knowledge with modern construction practices to deliver projects with care, precision, and respect for the land.
The Challenge
When Sp’akw’us began working with Atlas Cloud Accountants in 2024, the company was still in the early stages of establishing its bookkeeping and financial processes.
As a new business owner, the founder was focused on building the company, managing projects, and spending significant time on the road. He needed support determining where to begin with bookkeeping and selecting systems that would work for both the business’s immediate needs and its future growth.
Without an established bookkeeping structure, Sp’akw’us needed a complete financial foundation rather than simply ongoing transaction entry.
Why Sp’akw’us Chose Atlas
Sp’akw’us selected Atlas to help establish its bookkeeping systems from the ground up and provide ongoing financial support.
The goal was to create straightforward processes that would allow the owner to manage financial administration from the field while giving him reliable, up-to-date financial information for business and reporting purposes.
The Atlas Solution
Atlas implemented an integrated bookkeeping and payment system designed around how Sp’akw’us operates:
QuickBooks Online was established as the company’s central accounting platform. Atlas regularly reconciles the company’s accounts and prepares accurate month-end financial information for management and reporting.
Dext allows the owner to photograph and upload receipts while working on the road, reducing the risk of missing documentation and eliminating the need to retain and organize large volumes of paper receipts.
Payworks provides a simple process for reporting employee hours and allows Atlas to efficiently process payroll for the company’s growing team.
Plooto was introduced to provide a secure and controlled method for paying vendors. Payment information is also synchronized with QuickBooks Online, helping keep the company’s accounting records complete and current.
Together, these systems created a connected financial workflow that minimizes administration for the owner while giving Atlas the information needed to maintain accurate records.
Client Testimonial
“Alison and the entire Atlas team have been an invaluable part of Sp’akw’us since the early days of the company. They helped us build our financial systems from the ground up and have continued to adapt them as the business has grown. Their support allows me to spend less time worrying about bookkeeping and more time focusing on our projects, employees, and clients. I work with Sara on a daily basis, and she is exceptional – responsive, organized, and always making sure I stay on top of what needs to be done. She keeps me in line, which is no small task! It genuinely feels like Atlas is part of our team, and I’m very grateful for everything they do for us.”

The Results
Before working with Atlas, Sp’akw’us did not have an established bookkeeping system. The company now has a fully functioning financial technology stack and clearly defined processes that can scale alongside the business.
The owner can submit receipts while in the field, communicate payroll hours efficiently, securely approve vendor payments, and receive accurate month-end financial statements.
Rather than spending valuable time determining how to manage the company’s bookkeeping, the owner can focus on projects, employees, clients, and business development—knowing that the company’s financial records are being maintained accurately.
